Thomas Gentle Huckle (British d.
Thomas Gentle Huckle (British d. 1889) PAIR OF WORKS: HADDON HALL watercolor framed unsigned and inscribed on verso sight size: H8 1/2'' W12 1/4'' (2pcs) Provenance: Estate of Elizabeth H. Rader Rock Hill South Carolina. Other Notes: Haddon Hall is probably the finest example of a fortified Medieval manor house in existence. Present-day Haddon Hall was inhabited from the 12th century to the early 17th century; it lay dormant until the 1920s when the 9th Duke and Duchess of Rutland restored the house and gardens making it liveable once again. Withstanding fire warfare family misfortune and changing fashions Haddon Hall has changed little over the recent centuries and it provides a unique view of early English life and history. VICTORIAN ENGRAVED PRINT, THE
VICTORIAN ENGRAVED PRINT, THE GUILDHALL, T.S. BOYSAn original antique print depicting the west view inside the Great Hall in London's Guildhall. Produced ca. 1880 for an edition of Original Views of London As It Is, the 1842 lithograph series by Thomas Shotter Boys (1803-1874), English painter who enjoyed many admirers, including the French King Louis-Phillippe. Presented in an antique linen matte and custom wood frame.
An original antique print depicting the west view inside the Great Hall in London's Guildhall, as seen in 1842. The flat ceiling, following the Great Fire of 1666, was a distinctive feature. The entrance is seen on the left and the exit stairs are on the right. Produced ca. 1880 for an edition of Original Views of London As It Is, the 1842 lithograph series by Thomas Shotter Boys (1803-1874), English watercolor painter and lithographer who enjoyed many influential admirers, including the French King Louis-Phillippe, who sent the artist a ring. Boys published Original Views of London As It Is, drawn and lithographed by himself. Guildhall has been used as a town hall for several hundred years and is still the ceremonial and administrative center of the City of London. The term Guildhall refers both to the whole building and to its main room, a medieval great hall. The building is traditionally referred to as Guildhall, never the Guildhall. Presented in an antique linen matte and custom wood frame.
Issued: ca. 1880
Dimensions: 26.5"W x 21.75"L framed
Condition:
Good, some wear to frame, Not examined out of frame
