Warping from moisture, flaking at bottom, crease at top left edge, abrasion at edges, retouch at proper left eye; frame with losses and abrasions.

Scholar With Open Book signed ''K. Szewczenko'' ll 20 1/2 x 16 3/4 in. Estimate $ 500-700 Additional Comments October 19 2011: Each painting is an original oil on canvas: not relined or repaired and on the original stretchers. The portrait of the serious man has possibly darkened but otherwise there are no apparent faults. The portrait of the laughing man has three or four small scrapes and scattered other tiny losses of paint. The scrapes are not on the face itself. The worst is on the collar near the man's left ear. scholar - paint abrasions; craquelure paint loss. Paintings have not been examined by blacklight.
