SIR WILLIAM ORPEN (irish
SIR WILLIAM ORPEN (irish 1878-1931) LADY ORPEN SEATED IN AN INTERIOR Pencil inscribed on verso 'Lady Orpen, Paris, 1929 / Sir Orpen / No. 8' and inscribed in pen on verso '32/42', watercolor on paper laid to card 13 1/4 x 12 1/4 in. (33.7 x 31.2cm) provenance: From the collection of Philip Rieff and Alison Douglas Knox, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. ,000-6,000 Matted, framed. Generally good overall condition - colors are arguably a bit faded (we note that as compared to catalogue/online illustration, figure''s dress is slightly more of a pale aqua-blue in actuality. The dress is not as light blue as it appears in illustration). As visible in catalogue/online illustration, a lighter colored approximately 1 inch area in background at lower center right (by design of artist?) Verso of card with tape pieces (or tape remnants), mostly at outer edges, with some areas of surface abrasion from where tape pieces removed). Some surface discoloration verso. Overmat is affixed to card, in part-at outer edges, front of image, so parts of outer edges, front of work, not visible, and overmat thus cannot (safely) be removed from work.
