PREHISTORIC ORTHOCERAS FOSSIL STONEPREHISTORIC ORTHOCERAS FOSSIL STONE SLAB W STANDPrehistoric orthoceras fossils in sea floor stone slab. Includes metal display stand. Mid-Ordovician Period, 470 - 458 million years ago, Anti-Atlas Mountains. This superb, giant slab is filled with wonderfulnaturally occurring orthoceras fossils and was once part of the prehistoric ocean floor over 450 million years ago. The fossils are exposed and have been given a high polish to better view these extinct squid-likecreatures from their surrounding matrix. The slab features very high relief as well as dramatic texture and detail. As these forms of prehistoric squid were covered in ocean sediments prior to fossilization, themajority of the creatures will be facing in the same relative position having been lined up by currents on the sea floor prior to being buried. Rather than being one of the common 'tourist' composites typically offered in the market, this is a 100% authentic heavy fossil rock slab loaded with these beautiful prehistoric sea squid. Slab measures approx. 8" height x 18" width (20.3cm x 45.7cm). Measures approx. 22"
