Orson Byron Lowell (American 1871-1956) A large ink drawing on paper with watercolor wash throughout signed at the lower right corner apprx. 23-1/2" x 21" French matted and framed in a gilt frame under glass overall apprx. 31" x 28-1/2". The illustration depicting an amusing narrative of a man juggling household commodities such as food clothing coal and ice having dropped a bottle of milk at 9 cents while an anxious family and a monster-in-law look on. Clearly a continuing plight though the prices have changed. A large bird is depicted peeking through a doorway at the right.

SOBOSSEK, Stanley. Rural Cabins and Red Figure , possibly sharecroppers' cabins. Signed lower left. Stanley Sobossek, American/New York, 1918 - 1996, exhibited in annual Washington Square Park art shows in the 1950's and 1960's. Painted scenes of the Village, New Hope PA, and Gloucester MA. Sobossek lived at 309 Sixth Ave in Greenwich Village in the 50's and c.1965, bought a building at 35 Cooper Square used as his studio and gallery as well as a bar, theatre, and music venue. Size: 22 x 34. The Smithsonian's Archives of American Art has files on the artist. Condition: needs cleaning of heavy cigarette smoke residue, otherwise good. NOTE: PLEASE SEE Lot 167 for a similar Sobossek which has just been professionally cleaned. These Sobosseks need cleaning which would range from $100 to $200, depending on its size and your location. Provenance: friend of the artist.
