LARGE CHINESE KHANG-XI OXBLOOD
LARGE CHINESE KHANG-XI OXBLOOD VASE, IMPERIAL KILNS UNDER LANG Qing Dynasty, probably Kangxi Period, circa 1662?1722; a Large Vase with slightly squared shoulder, large neck, Sang de Boeuf with purple flambe and speckling, thick rippled glaze with deliberately chipped glaze run off at the foot as was the fashion, rougher mossy interior glaze, 15" x 9", includes vintage rosewood carved stand. Hairline crack length of the neck. Includes Jan. 1926 letter from John Wanamaker to buyer Henry H. Hanton of Lancaster, PA, giving specifics of this piece. "This porcelain vase with the celebrated "Sang de Boeuf" glaze was made only in the short period when the famous Lang was director of the Imperial kilns at Ching-te-Chen during the reign of K'Ang H Shi. The bluish runs portray the lights of the blood before the air strikes it. As you will observe this particular vase has not the smooth glaze but the very unusual finish." Also includes color cut of vases sent with the letter and a copy of the front page article on this man's collection in the May 2, 1938 Lancaster, Pa. Sunday News.
