(20.96 CM.)LADI KWALI ABUJA POTTERY STONEWARE COVERED BOWL, Ladi Kwali (Nigerian, circa 1925-1984) glazed stoneware circular covered bowl, with highly decorated exterior, the base with impressed LK and Abuja marks Catalogue note: Ladi Kwali achieved international recognition in 1954 after she was invited to join British ceramicist, Michael Cardew, when he opened a studio in northern Nigeria. Under his instruction she learned modern pottery techniques including wheel throwing and the potter's wheel. Cardew took her on an extensive tour of the United States in 1971-72.
