Peeling and losses to lacquer on inside of lid. Glass for dust cover is missing. Dirt and debris throughout interior of music box and drawer. Dirt to exterior of entire music box. One knob is loose and separate from components. Small fretwork cover missing support piece and piece of fretwork missing on one side. Cylinders and mechanics have not been tested.

Winds easily and runs at all speeds. Control, lockout, viewfinder, diopter, handles and straps all work as expected. An exceptional example of the famed Paillard Bolex camera in 16mm- with a removable chamber on top for mounting a full 400ft cinematic film reel, and attachment points for sound sync equipment. Bolex models such as these have been used by numerous professional film makers, including Spike Lee, to produce some of their most respected works. Paperwork includes original import slip from Switzerland, Lens Manual, H Declic Manual, Kern-Paillard f18-85 f2.5 depth of field guide, an H16 Reflex-5 guide and H16 General reference guide. It stipulates some of the more unique and professional features of the camera, such as variable shutter timing, multiple film speeds (from 12-64) attachment points for electric motors and accessories, etc. Lens has not been checked for clarity but preview through the viewfinder is clear and easy to see. Also includes a set of 6 slide in color filters, lens cap, lens hood, and cable release. All speeds and technical features have been estimated by are not guaranteed. Age and use related wear.

Elaborately inlaid two door case case comprised of mahogany, rosewood, satinwood, and fruitwood; white marble top with projecting center and front corners over a conforming case, the frieze mounted with a classical bronze plaque and openwork foliate scroll decoration; over two doors, each adorned with inlaid oval vignettes of bouquets, set against a parquetry background and framed with bronze molding. Canted corners, with inlaid capitals and applied bronze swags and acanthus leaves. The inlaid base features a band of bronze molding, turreted corners and bronze mounted toupie feet. Sides feature inlaid marquetry laurel swags against a parquetry background. Central bronze plaque bears the stamp of the Parisian firm of Victor Paillard. 44 1/2" H x 46 1/2" W x 18 1/2" D. Paris, 3rd Quarter 19th century.

In Good condition, consistent with age and use, discoloration to clamshell cover.

However, apart from the shape and a few similar functions, it was a radically different camera. Among the most notable improvements was the addition of a three lens turret and variable speed dial. Over the next decade, the H-16 saw several alterations; includes carrying case with accessories, camera measures approximately 8-1/2" tall. Marked Paillard Bolex H16-F25. Functionality of camera has not been tested.
