Boston" foldover top frieze with classical mounts tapered columnar stem with circular plinth hipped saber legs brass paw feet casters height 28 1/2 in. width 35 in. depth 17 1/4 in. Note: The label on this table is from 1828-1829 the short period that Rufus Pierce had sole proprietorship of a furniture warehouse at 17 Market Street in Boston. Pierce was partnered with Isaac Allen in 1827 and then with Nathaniel Messer from 1829-1830. In 1830 Pierce had relocated to New York when creditors sold the 17 Market (renamed Cornhill) Street inventories. Reference: Talbott. Boston Queen Anne high chest, walnut veneers and maple with pine secondary, two-case construction on cabriole legs with pad feet, Boston area, Massachusetts, 1740-1760, 59-1/2 x 40 x 22-1/4 in. Generally good condition, refinished with some sun fading, replaced brasses, central bottom drawer with patch and repair at lock, same drawer once fitted with dividers now missing, expected cracks and minor repairs to veneers, some laminations to legs and feet (all apparently as made), lacking one knee return and others replaced, other minor repairs. A Rare Pair of American Art Furniture Mahogany Side Chairs late 19th c. one rear seat rail stamped "Wm. White Boston" the other stamped "White" the design antecedents are taken from "Lancashire" chairs each incorporating turned stiles and splats centered by oblong lozenges the woven rush seat raised on ringed-turned legs joined by stretchers elongated spherule feet height 49 in. Note: William White is listed in the Boston City Directories from 1857-1903 as a chair maker at 885 Washington St. the heart of the Boston cabinet making trade.
