EMILE LOUIS PICAULT (FRANCE, 1833-1915) "L'Aviation", lost wax cast and patinated bronze, signed on integral base, depicting a winged semi-nude male kneeling atop a Montgolfier hot air balloon, symbols of early flight leaninig around the basket, including a set of motor cylinders, a propellor, an anchor; and a low relief of an airplane on front of the balloon. A scroll at the bottom reads "Des ailes, des ailes, pour voler par Montagne et par vallee, Ruckert"; (Wings, wings, to fly by mountain and by valley). A stanza of "Wings! Wings to fly!" from 'Springtime of Love?, Op. 37 by Friedrich Ruckert (1788-1866). Roughly 31 1/2" x 22" x 19".

The sheet appears in overall very good original condition. Some darkening around the perimeter, as apparent in catalogue photographs. Minor diagonal creases to the sheet visible in raking light. Traces of previous mounting tape on verso, also apparent in catalogue images.
