The image depicts a woman dressed as a Vestal Virgin, clothed in white with an infula draped over her head and across her shoulders, she holds the "sacred fire" in her hand. In highly ornate Black Forest carved wooden frame comprising of oak leaves. Plaque: 4 3/4" x 3 1/2". Overall: 17" x 11 1/2". Good condition with chips to several leaf tips.

In remnants of polychrome paint and gilding, with the reverse hollowed out, roughly 17 1/2" x 13" x 9", repairs, wormage. Fine age patina. Notes from family indicate this was purchased in the 1970's in London from Thomas Sneyd for the equivalent of $8,000.
