CARL SCHURZ PLAQUETTE 1907 ThisCARL SCHURZ PLAQUETTE 1907 This 1907 bronze plaquette features the German immigrant Carl Schurz. He was an author, newspaper man, politician, Brigadier General in the Civil War and eventual Secretary of the Interior. Latin inscription reads "VBI LIBERTAS, IBI PATRIA", Where there is Liberty, there is my Country. The Reverse is Brenner's America Leading Immigrant Onward which also appears as a uniface Smedley #3 variety. Interestingly, all the lettering on both sides are double struck and very dramatically on the reverse with VB Brenner's signature at top left
