NYMPHENBURG PORCELAIN FIGURE GROUP OF A PLAYFUL LESSON, 'DAME IM SPIEL MIT KINDERN'NYMPHENBURG PORCELAIN FIGURE GROUP OF A PLAYFUL LESSON, 'DAME IM SPIEL MIT KINDERN', German, dated 1968, blue painted crowned CT monogram and year mark, impressed Bavarian shield mark, incised 1004, after the Frankenthal group by Johann Peter Melchior of 1784, depicting a young maiden holding two flutes away from two children, on a stepped rocky mound base, together with a Hoechst style figure of a gallant, spurious blue wheel mark, after a model by Johann Peter Melchior of circa 1765, depicted standing in pink jacket, yellow vest and yellow breeches, on a grassy mound base, h: 7.75 in. (2) Johann Peter Melchior (1747-1825) was the Modellmeister at the Hoechst porcelain factory in 1767-1779. He later worked at the factories at Frankenthal (1779-1793) and Nymphenburg (1797-1822).

Four child related silhouettes, watercolor, 19th century: one with children playing with figure having fallen off a donkey, watercolor cutout applied to cream laid paper, 3-1/2 x 5-5/8 in., gilt frame; pair profiles of boy and girl, stamped at bottom "Baches Patent", hollow cut cream paper with ink highlights against black felt, 3-5/8 x 2-3/4 in., light toning, stains , matching gilt frames, repainted ; one of young girl, cut out black ink paper with highlights on dress, titled at bottom "Ruth", backed with paper circa 1800 with mention of Charleston and Savannah, 3 in. diameter, toning, foxing, fading of ink , possibly original black-painted frame. All frames with abrasions. Label verso "Original by Caroline Eden in 1810 - Great Grandmother of Anthony Eden"; The Estate of the Late Grace Shorter, South Salem, New York.
