Collection of Nine Early 20th-Century Silver Gilt Plique-a-Jour Spoons, including six American examples in an unidentified demitasse pattern, Whiting, Providence, Rhode Island, the ovolo handle with openwork quatrefoils, each enameled, the bowls monogrammed "A", l. 4", two Russian 84 zolotnik (.875) silver examples, Nikolai Alexeyev, Moscow, with spiral-twist handles, decorated with multicolored champleve and plique-a-jour enamel, the bowls monogrammed "MC", l. 5-3/8", and a Norwegian sterling silver filigree example, J. Tostrup, Olso, with lyriform handle and spiral-twist stem, the bowl engraved "Geneva", l. 7-7/8", 5.66 total t. oz.

OBJECTS OF NORWEGIAN PLIQUE A JOUR SIGNED M. HAMMERThe Norwegian silver cup and saucer set offered here with a circular covered box were built by hand in elaborate openwork floral motifs and decorative bands sculpted from silver stock and filled with jewel-tone glass enamels in the technique plique a jour - French for 'letting in daylight.' The circular base of each is stamped with the maker's initials MH on the underside along with the hallmark for Marius Hammer and the Norwegian silver standard stamp of 930s, a standard with higher silver content than Sterling.Plate measures 4.25, cup is 2 x 3 x 2.25, and box is 1.25 x 2 inches.Very good tarnished condition. There are no chips, cracks, repairs, scratches or areas of heavy wear.Provenance: The collection of Josephine Bird Hall (1888 - 1948) by descent to her son, the present owner. Josephine's father was a founder of Kansas City's Emery, Bird, Thayer Department Store.

NORWEGIAN SILVER PLIQUE A JOUR FOOTED CUP SAUCER SETSThe Norwegian silver sets are built by hand in elaborate openwork floral motifs and decorative bands sculpted from silver stock and filled with jewel-tone glass enamels in the technique plique a jour - French for 'letting in daylight.' The circular solid silver base of each cup and each saucer is embellished in blue, and or red, guilloche enamel on the inside and stamped with the maker's hallmark for Marius Hammer and the Norwegian silver standard stamp of 930s, greater than that of Sterling silver.Red sauce measures 4.25, cup is 2 x 3 x 2.5, blue saucer is 4, and the cup is 2 x 3 x 2.5 inches.The saucer with red guilloche center is with crazing and minor bits of actual loss, plus the cup is separated from its 'foot' as shown. There are no other issues of damage or repair.Provenance: The collection of Josephine Bird Hall (1888 - 1948) by descent to her son, the present owner.
