HENRY TERRY PLYMOUTH CT - 30-hourHENRY TERRY PLYMOUTH CT - 30-hour wooden movement shelf clock ca. 1834. Henry Terry (1801-1877) continued clock manufacture in his father's factory after the elder Terry's retirement. About 1837 he ceased clock manufacturing and converted the factory of a wooden mill which he operated until bankrupty after the Civil War. This case is unusual in that it had two reverse painted and bronze stenciled panels in the cornice top. The lower door may have had a mirror or a reverse painted tablet. The present door tablet and two cornice tablets are 20th century and very poorly executed (a good example is at the clock museum in Bristol). The dial has been poorly overpainted though could probably be restored to original condition. The minute hand is probably original but the hour hand is proper design but too large. Stenciling on the half columns is missing. The door escutcheon (originally bone or ivory) has been replaced by a brass one. This is an unusual model but ''as is'' and needing serious restoration.

E. TERRY & SON PLYMOUTH CT -E. TERRY & SON PLYMOUTH CT - 30-hour wooden movement shelf clock ca. 1829. Eli Terry (1772-1852) had several firms which manufactured shelf clocks in a factory along the Naugatuck River at Plymouth (this area in present-day Thomaston) CT. Henry Terry (1801-1877) was the son in this firm. This clock is in ''as found condition'' and has a shorter case (3/4 size) from the Loomis clock. It has an excellent original dial in good condition and the original label has some loss but very readable. The splat in the center of the top is a poorly made replacement. The columns and original splat had bronze stenciling originally. There is some damage to the veneer and the mirror or reverse painted tablet in the door is missing.
