56 NATIVE AMERICAN TEXAS STONE
56 NATIVE AMERICAN TEXAS STONE PROJECTILE POINTSNative American, Southern United States, Texas, Rio Grande Region/North Mexico, Archaic to Historic, ca. 2500 BCE to 1800 CE. This is a fine gathering stone projectile points in a wooden and glass display case. The heads are each hand knapped and delicately flaked into a variety of forms of stemmed, unstemmed, and notched points. Some unstemmed examples include nearly perfect triangular darts such as Tortugas, Early Triangular, and Matamoros. The stones used are a mainly a variety of creamy chert and quartzite, but a point in the upper center is a jet-black obsidian. Obsidian was a special material that was traded from volcanic sources in central Mexico and is evidence of extensive trade routes from those southern regions into the Rio Grande Delta. Size of largest point: 2.5" L x 2" W (6.4 cm x 5.1 cm); case: 16" L x 12" W (40.6 cm x 30.5 cm)
Provenance: private southwestern Pennsylvania, USA collection, acquired prior to 2000

Two points are repaired with the blade and tip reattached and faint remains of adhesive is visible. Small losses to ears or wings and pointed tips on 11. Chips and nicks to peripheries as expected with age and use. Displayed in a modern wood and glass case.
