ST. PETERSBURG PHOTO PLANT SYSTEM DOCKThis photo was taken in 1900 and shows the Plant System Dock (wharf) in St. Petersburg. Of note are the two signs tacked to the support beams: "Smoking Not Allowed" (very sensible on a wood deck), and "Shooting Not Allowed." The 4-3/4" x 3-3/4" photographic print is cemented to a piece of gray heavy cardboard stock 6" x 5". There is some additional info written on the back. Excellent condition.

WALTER L. DEAN DOCKED SHIP HARBOR PAINTING Massachusetts,1854-1912Impressionist depiction of a large sailing vessel at dock on an overcast day housed in a finely carved Motyka frame. Dean originally enrolled at MIT for architecture before leaving to study art at the Massachusetts Normal School. Dean later left for France to study at the Academe Julian under Gustave Boulanger and Jules Joseph Lefebvre. Dean was a member of the Boston Art Club; Paint and Clay Club; Copley Society; Salmagundi Club among others.
