Purchased as William MacLeod (American 1811-1892) oil on artist board ''Spring in the Potomac '' small pastoral spring landscape with small cabin scattered flowering trees cows ducks and boats in or near a body of water indistinct inscription verso (protected behind plexiglass) that reads ''Spring in the Potomac / Painted [by?] WM / 186[?]''; in 20th C. gilt frame and with white linen mat 2 1/4'' deep overall; very good condition; ss: 4 1/2'' h. x 7 3/4'' w. Provenance: Purchased from the MacFarlane Collection Santa Barbara CA in 2004 for $12 000. According to the provenance on the receipt the painting was purchased around 1988 out of an estate in Old Town Alexandria.
