The population of Iceland is about 300,000 and the medal is awarded sparingly, making it very hard to find.

Davis states that he has accommodated his request for a letter of recommendation regarding an unspecified job in Washington and forwarded the letter to Major E.A. Burke yet the former senator and president laments it is the only help he can provide as ...Misfortunes have assailed me by battalion for some years past and left me quite powerless to give pecuniary aid to those it would delight me to serve.

Note: This photograph was likely taken on April 24, 1964 when President Johnson visited Huntington, West Virginia to announced the "War on Poverty" aimed at improving conditions in Appalachia and was taken at the airport. Receivable for all Government dues. Eight percent fund of $1,500,000. Certified act of Congress Feb. 5th 1840. The Republic of Texas promises to pay to Charles DeMorse (1816-1887)...," signed by John G. Chalmers (1803-1847) as Secretary of Treasury, appointed by President Mirabeau B. Lamar and signed by acting President David G. Burnet, each coupon with John G. Chalmer's monogram and corresponding certificate number in ink, verso inscribed, "Charles deMorse." 7 5/8" x 9 7/8" Note: An unusual Texian document names Charles deMorse as the holder of the bond, while he concurrently also served as Stock Commissioner. A second curiosity is the presence of David G. Burnet's signature on the "President" line; herein he is serving as acting President of Texas during his tenure as 2nd Vice President of the Republic of Texas, while Mirabeau B.
