A 13th Century Illuminated PsalterA 13th Century Illuminated Psalter Leaf Northwest France or Paris on parchment paper hand illuminated with gold red and blue inks. Latin in black/brown ink under cream matte with red line design gold wood frame sight size 7" x 5" overall 19" x 13-1/2". The psalter was the principal book for private devotion before the development of books of hours in the thirteenth century. This psalter leaf follows the usual practice of dividing the Psalms according to the cycle in which they were recited at the matins and vespers over the course of the week every week in the secular medieval church.

Probably Northeastern France or Paris this is an original page or leaf from a medieval Psalter.
