ROYAL DOULTON QUEEN ELIZABETH II CORONATION LOVING CUPExtra Large Commemorative Two Handled Loving Cup.
The Queen�s portrait in relief is surmounted by the Union Jack and the Royal Standard. The latter displays the three lions of England, the Scottish lion and the Irish harp. Above are the full Royal Arms, with the golden lion and silver unicorn. The garter encircles the shield with its motto �Honi soit qui mal y pense�. The lion crest was first worn by Richard Lionheart and �Dieu et mon droit� has been the sovereign�s motto since the days of Henry VI. The present Queens famous namesake, Elizabeth I is remembered on the reverse, with her portrait shown against a backdrop of 3 galleons illustrating the ascendance of England as a great naval power. QUEEN ELIZABETH II STERLING COVERED CUPA Queen Elizabeth II sterling covered cup, the goblet-shaped body sided by open handles and fitted with a conforming lid featuring a crown-shaped finial, the bowl engraved with the Canadian Coat of Arms on one side, the opposing side decorated with the applied British Royal Cipher for Queen Elizabeth II, raised upon a robust single column engraved with Fleur-de-Lys motifs atop a convex shaped base. The underside hallmarked Sheffield with Coronation mark & date mark for 1953 & maker's marks KM, together with retailer marks for Mappin & Webb Montreal. The lid also bearing date marks & maker's marks. Height, 14", weight, 2,178 grams, mounted upon a turned mahogany plinth, overall height of 17". Note: This cup was personally ordered by Mr. Kenneth George Mappin of Montreal, and used as part of a window display in the Ste. Catherine street store celebrating the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.
