An Antique Carved Mahogany Four-Piece Bedroom Suite late 19th c. labeled "R.J. Horner & Co. Furniture Makers" including bed tall chest with mirror large dresser with mirror and dressing table with three-part mirror all found in original finish bed height 67 in. length 76 in. width 56 in.; high chest height 78 in. width 42 in. depth 24 in.; dresser height 75 in. width 60 in. depth 26 in.; vanity height 48 in. width 32 1/2 in. depth 23 in. Note: In 1886 Robert J. Horner established his furniture business on East 23rd Street in New York producing work to satisfy a variety of tastes. The robust execution of Rococo-inspired carved ornament apparent in this bedroom suite bespeaks a singular Beaux Arts style produced by R.J. Horner. Documented Horner pieces encompass highly carved oak walnut and mahogany bedroom furniture as well as parlor dining room and library furniture in a variety of styles particularly with Renaissance Rococo and Aesthetic motifs.
