Birney's Sharp Shooters Civil War Recruitment Broadside 22.75 x 36.25 in. framed to 27.5 x 31.25 in. Ca August 1864. Appealing to the 8th Ward of Philadelphia the broadside features a patriotic eagle with a banner in its beak reading Rally Around The Flag! and offers a $575 bounty for a one year enlistment. Those responding would comprise Co. E 203rd Pennsylvania which although recruited to be a sharpshooting regiment in General Birney's army served as an ordinary infantry regiment following his death just a month after their organization at Philadelphia in September 1864. Condition: Warping staining and tears especially at center horizontal fold.
