- EARLY 1900 KNICKERBOCKER QUARTER SAWN
EARLY 1900 KNICKERBOCKER QUARTER SAWN OAK ICE BOXFor your consideration is this Early 1900s Knickerbocker Quarter Sawn Oak Panel Ice Box Refrigerator. the ice box was developed sometime between 1830 and 1840. It was little more than a wooden box with an area to hold a block of ice. Over the next few decades, improvements were made to the original design to make them more effective. Fascinatingly, it was due to these ice boxes that a new 'milk man' emerged: the ice man. Ice men visited homes daily where they'd deliver ice, securely insulated in sawdust, to each ice box. Near the top of the box, in the interior, was an area to hold a big block of ice. The water from the melting ice into a holding tank or a pan under the ice box, which had to be emptied regularly lest it pour over onto the floor. The Knickerbocker Ice Company was an ice company based in New York State from 1831 until it closed in 1924. Ice box has upper lid and main door with latch. Bottom tray access via bottom hinged panel door. This ice box has been well preserved, original interior metal lining exhibits evidence of prior usage, appears was painted both inside and on rear panels, original nails observed on rear panels, early wheel coasters attached. Measures 23"W x 38"H x 16"D approximately.

- IBLET (BRANDON MORRISON) REFRIGERATOR
IBLET (BRANDON MORRISON) REFRIGERATOR DOOR(American/Georgia, 21st Century)
Miles and Birds, signed lower right "IBLET", mixed media with collage on metal door, 47 x 33 in.
Note:
IBLet is Brandon Morrison.
IBLet rhymes with I Bet. It is a fumbled and captured slip of a word turned graffiti tag and pseudonym. Brandon Morrison is an Atlanta based artist and musician.
Often incorporating automatic drawing, printmaking, collage and found objects, Brandon’s paintings are rhythmic and dense, directly influenced by the artists and the musicians that inspire him. His figurative pieces nod to Picasso and De Kooning and Romare Bearden. He mixes abstraction and accident with gestural elements that echo Pollock’s action painting and graffiti with areas of flat layers of color that suggests a printmaker’s touch. see: ibletstudio.com https://ibletstudio.com/about
Condition:
some abrasion and some of the collage has become loose
- DON BALKE (B. 1933) "RACCOON AND TULIP
DON BALKE (B. 1933) "RACCOON AND TULIP POPLAR"Don Balke (North Carolina, B. 1933) "Raccoon and Tulip Poplar" Signed lower right. Original Watercolor on Illustration Board.
Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation.
This art was originally published in the limited edition collection of philatelic proofcards issued by Fleetwood and the National Audubon Society for the Wildlife of the 50 States.
Charming masked rogues, Raccoons are native only to the Americas where, taking civilization in stride, they seem to prosper in almost any habitat. They live on the beaches of both oceans, thrive in southern bayous, and prosper in densely wooded areas where they can hide in rocky crevices and scamper among the trees. Should their homes be destroyed by the ever-advancing civilization, they merely take up residency in the cement culverts or the basements of whatever structures replace them. This adaptability sent the raccoon population soaring. Raccoons rob nests and cornbins, raid garbage pails, and move into other animals' dens. With agile fingers, they open refrigerator doors, twist doorknobs, and pick the cherries from a pie cooling on a window sill. Raccoons are famous for washing this stolen food. However, they don't actually wash the food, before eating, they merely dip it, making no distinction between clean and dirty water. This unique habit and their curious costumes of black and brown tail rings, a grizzled coat, and a black mask, identify the Raccoon.
