REMINGTON MODEL 1858 ARMY
REMINGTON MODEL 1858 ARMY REVOLVERThis is a very interesting old Remington Army, which appears to have Martial marks, as well as being a true Cowboy gun. The consignor states that he has had it since it was given to him when he was a child, 60 plus years ago, and that the gun and holster have always been together. The gun is a solid old 1858 Army in .44 caliber, serial number 99209, so made in the early part of the Civil War. It has inspectors’ marks D on the trigger guard and barrel, and additionally the letter A on the barrel. The front sight has been replaced with an old silver dime. The grips have been carved with “BKT” on one side, and an arrow head and the letters “LM” on the other. The holster is an old “slim Jim” style, with flowers and feather stamped on it. The cylinder area has been cut out to allow for the size of the cylinder, as it was clearly made for a smaller pistol. It has clearly been on this pistol for a long time. Dimensions: 14.5 inches long overall, with the barrel being 8 inches long. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $55.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance.
Condition:
The pistol is solid, and the action still works, although the main sprong is very weak. There is extensive heavy pitting near the breech, and on the cylinder. The loading lever catch is weak. The grips, other than the carving, are solid and nice. The holster has some stitching gone, but is still flexible, and holds the pistol well. The belt loop is intact. Witherell's strives to provide as much information and photographs as possible but encourages in-person inspection by bidders. Condition: statements are only for general guidance and should not be relied upon as complete statements of fact and do not constitute a representation, warranty or assumption of liability by Witherell's. All lots are sold "AS IS" under terms and conditions.
