REMINGTON NAVY REVOLVERRemington Model 1861 Navy Revolver. A really superb Remington Navy Revolver, in .36 caliber, retaining a lot of original blue, especially on and under the loading lever. The gun is serial number 21731, and was manufactured in limited numbers during the Civil War. This is one of the finest I have ever seen, and has a beautiful, crisp and tight action. Dimensions: 7.5 inch barrel, and 13.75 inches long overall. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $55.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance.
Condition:
Very good to excellent. There are extensive traces of original blue, and the gun has sharp corners, and beautiful stamps. The right grip has a little roughness, but is solid and original. Witherell's strives to provide as much information and photographs as possible but encourages in-person inspection by bidders. COLT BREVETE MODEL 1851 NAVY REVOLVER. .36 caliber six-shot cylinder with engraved hunting scene 7 1/2'' octagonal barrel marked ''Colt Brevete'' walnut grips. S/n 6722 with ''NC'' on the butt strap. Marks crisp retains 90+% of its bluing barrel engraving still fairly clear and crisp with minor wear nickel plating on cylinder trigger guard and straps about 90% grips refinished action is fairly smooth wedge not numbered and has dings and dents from difficult removal missing latch to hold the lever in place.

Less than 10% bluing remains the rest with dark gray patina bore good with some corrosion action is smooth engraved cylinder scene visible but rather worn old/original finish on the grips some nicks and dings mostly around the wedge but the wedge serial number matches. Manufactured 1851.

REMINGTON NEW MODEL ARMY REVOLVER. Transitional model without ''New Model'' mark .44 caliber six-shot cylinder 8'' octagonal barrel checkered walnut grips. S/n 17196. Accompanied by original accessories. According to tradition this revolver was originally carried by William Boston of the 1st Maryland Cavalry who was wounded and captured near Madison Mills Virginia and spent the remainder of his service in prison. Mottled patina with traces of bluing slightly stiff action minor chips to the grips fairly clean bore. Accompanied by NARA paperwork.

In the original partitioned cardboard box with black marbled paper; original dog flask brass mold with iron sprue cutter cleaning rod with brass loader ''L''-shaped percussion nipple wrench original pack of paper cartridges. We have only seen two original cardboard boxed Remington Beals Navy revolvers. They are very rare. Condition: Barrel and cylinder retain 80% of the original blue finish thinning and turning plum. Frame is very sharp and crisp with traces of blue finish; the rest is a nice plum. Grips are excellent. Box and accessories are excellent.

Frame retains 92% of the original blue finish with the wear to the high edges. Cylinder retains 90% of the original blue finish and line through the cylinder stops. Grips are excellent.

According to tradition this gun originally belonged to Joseph Berkstresser of Company L of the 160th Pennsylvania Volunteers which was later reorganized into Company L of the 15th Pennsylvania Cavalry. Only fair condition scattered oxidation action is nonfuntional loading lever does not move marks worn and barrel scene not visible. Mfd. 1861.
