  BIRDSEYE MAPLE PARLOR TABLE, ONTARIO, CA. 1860A Regency influence parlor table in birdseye maple (solid and veneer) having a rectangular top with cut corners and a single drawer. The top has a centred rectangular walnut panel framed with finely burled veneer that continues on the edge and the skirt below. The body rests on a turned birds eye maple shaft mounted on a round plate supported by four shaped out swept legs -- all in birds eye maple. The delicate edge molding on the skirt is in walnut with secondary woods being walnut and pine. Two corner pieces of the molding on the skirt edge are restored. Hamilton, Ontario, ca 1860. H: 27.25"; W: 20.25"; D: 16.75". FRANCAIS: Table de parloir d'influence Régence en érable piqué (massif et plaqué), un seul tiroir, plateau rectangulaire à coins tronqués a un panneau de noyer central, encadré d’un fin placage de loupe de bois qui descend sur le bord et la ceinture en dessous. Easter Islands. H: 6"; W/L: 13"; D/P: 4". This object was acquired by the consignor’s grandparents circa 1955 while they were on a trip to the Easter Islands. The piece was carbon dated by the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) which detected that this is indeed a 2000-year-old piece of whale bone. The consignor attests to being shown this document by their grandparents but has since been unable to locate it since their passing. The piece also shares striking similarities with pieces included in Thor Heyerdahl's book "The Art of Easter Island."
