Biography (Courtesy of AskArt: The Artists' Bluebook): Robert Wesley Amick was born in Canon City, Colorado amidst cowboys, prospectors and Indians. He studied law at Yale and practiced law for two years before deciding to study art privately and at the Art Students League in New York. His paintings of landscapes, horses and western life were drawn mainly from his childhood; he also illustrated for Harper's, Scribner's, and The American. OIL ON CANVAS PAINTING. Depicting a Native American wearing a feather headdress in a canoe on a river. In a gilt frame. 25'' h. 36'' w. (not including frame). Unsigned attributed to Robert Wesley Amick (1879-1969). Born in Colorado Amick studied law at Yale University before devoting himself to artistic pursuits. He is best known for his illustrations of Western subjects. Attribution is based on a small note attached to the back of the piece which reads ''Amick / Indian + Canoe''. Condition is good canvas is in good shape the back is clean.
