19TH C. INDIAN POLICE CODY,
19TH C. INDIAN POLICE CODY, NEBRASKA ROUNDUP PHOTOThis is an original, large photograph of the Indian Police at Cody, Nebraska Roundup from the 19th Century. The back is marked in graphite pencil, “Roundup William Calkins Indian Police Cody Neb.” The image shows a dozen or so Native American Indian Police members, their badges clearly visible and several cowboys with wonderful detail. The only notable William Calkins that could possibly be in this image, but unconfirmed is William Henry Calkins (1842-1894) Civil War veteran, U.S. Representative and U.S. associate justice for the Territory of Washington, but its unclear. Its unclear if the image is of a Roundup Rodeo in Cody, Nebraska or a “roundup” of a man named William Calkins of or with the Indian Police from Cody, Nebraska. A wonderful image. The large boudoir card, likely an albumen photograph measures 9.5” by 7”. Provenance: From the Jim Aplan Piedmont, South Dakota collection.
