Pile varies from none to low, extensive pest damage, selvedge and corner curling, selvedge fraying and breaks, slight end loss at each end and lacking fringe, no threadbare areas or reductions found. Authenticated by the Newington-Cropsey Foundation and to be included in the forthcoming Cropsey catalog raisonn?. Likely a Ramapo Valley NY scene. In a 1900 letter from Cropsey to St. Louis dealer M. Alfred Newhouse Cropsey describes the relevance of the bridges depicted in such works ''of the Ramapo Valley Rockland Co. N.Y. -on the line of the Erie Rail way. There was a number of old Rustic Bridges-built by the miners-to team their iron ore to the smelting mill: some were very picturesque-But in the Course of Time they have mostly passed away.'' Jasper Francis Cropsey American 1823 - 1900. From a Marlborough CT estate; purchased by the consignor's family in NYC circa 1965. Dimensions: 10'' high x 8'' wide. Condition: Overall good condition with an old wax reline. Some light surface grime.
