JAMES "JIMMY" STEELE-BUILT PEAPOD
JAMES "JIMMY" STEELE-BUILT PEAPOD ON TRAILER Built by Jimmy Steele, well-known peapod builder from Brooklin, Maine. The boat's original mast with spritsail and all riggings are included along with one set of six foot long oars. This boat was not built with a centerboard. This particular example is painted in a stark white with red accents to the rails and seats and was carvel-built. The peapod is in damaged condition with several planks below the waterline having warped and separated from each other. Some of the framing as well as parts of the keel show signs of dry rot. One of the wood cleats on the mast is broken. An excellent project for the aspiring boatbuilder. Boat Dimensions: 14' long, 4 1/2' wide at widest point, 5" deep painted water line. Mast: 12'2" tall. Sail: 11'6" x 6'8". The peapod is a traditional Maine design that was at one time the premier economy vessel for lobstermen on the midcoast and is now a popular choice for recreational rowers and daysailers.
