A group of four figurines produced by Beswick for Royal Doulton modeled as characters from the 1920s comic strip Rupert Bear: RUPERT BEAR, Number 1709 of 1920; PODGY PIG, Number 1709 of 1920; EDWARD TRUNK, Number 668 of 1920; and BILL BADGER, Number 668 of 1920. Produced in a limited edition of 1920, commemorating the year of the cartoon's debut. Stamped to bases ROYAL DOULTON and other marks.

1470S INCUNABLE LEAF FROM
1470S INCUNABLE LEAF FROM PLUTARCH'S LIVES (RUSCH)A leaf from Plutarch's Parallel Lives , printed by Adolf Rusch ("the R-Printer"), Strasbourg, circa 1470s. The contents of the leaf include a dedication to Cardinal Francesco Piccolomini and a table of contents. Illustrated with floral designs. Antiqua type. Sight approx. 14" x 9". The glazed frame measures 22 1/2" x 17 1/2".
Rusch's was the second printed edition of Plutarch's Parallel Lives , after only Ulrich Han (Rome) in 1470, and preceding Nicolaus Jenson in 1478. In 2021, Christie's London sold a copy of the complete intact Rusch volume for $100,000.
Condition
Vertical and horizontal crease to the leaf, and a little bit of wrinkling from handling. Faint stains to the top and right. Not removed from the frame.
