Note: For the ninety years of its existence, from 1836-1926, the Astor House Hotel offered its clientele the height of luxury. John Jacob Astor built his 309 room hotel in the city's most fashionable residential district, at the corner of Broadway and Vesey Street. The ground floor building at the far right of the facade is the Rushton & Aspinwall drug store that opened at 10 Astor house in 1836. The most influential men and women of the day were guests at one time or another, including Abraham Lincoln on his way to the 1861 inauguration.

Three Levi Hollingsworth Philadelphia documents, two signed by Thomas Mifflin (1744-1800, first Governor of Pennsylvania), all manuscript documents on vellum with docket information verso; deed dated November 8th, 1794, transferring 42,629 acres of land in Virginia from John Phillips to Levi Hollingsworth for the sum of 1,250 pounds, signed by John Phillips, Matthew Clarkson as Mayor of Philadelphia, and Thomas Mifflin as Governor, with two paper seals, 27 x 21-1/2 in.; "Declaration of Uses" dated December 12th, 1794, outlining the division of 51,000 acres of land in Georgia owned by Levi Hollingsworth, John Phillips, and Thomas Rushton, signed by Levi Hollingsworth, wax and paper seals, 16-1/4 x 19 in.; "Letter of Attorney" dated December 19th, 1794, by Levi Hollingsworth and his wife, appointing Phillip Sansom of London, England, as attorney to oversee offering their property in America on the European market, signed by Levi Hollingsworth, Hannah Hollingsworth, James Trimble (1755-1838) as Deputy Secretary, and Thomas Mifflin as Governor, with paper and wax seals, 19-1/4 x 22-1/2 in. A Royal Worcester plaque of
A Royal Worcester plaque of Bluebells Kew painted by Rushton date code for 1924 signed to the front titled verso printed mark framed and glazed 9.25 x 5.75ins - a.f. Estimate ?400-600 Extensive cracking notable through the aperture on the back board this appears to have been effected by heat probably shining through the glass on the plaque over many years one pronounced crack is now visible running from dead centre diagonally upwards to the left for about 3 inches. No other cracks are easily detectable from the front but we suspect more are present. In its original gilt metal and gilt scroll frame which is in fair order. Backboard has never been removed and title inscription can be viewed from the reverse. Descriptions provided in both printed and on-line catalogue formats do not include condition reports. The absence of a condition statement does not imply that the lot is in perfect condition or completely free from wear and tear imperfections or the effects of aging.
