Condition:
The item is in good condition with no visible tears, creases, or losses. The paper is lightly toned. When inspected under UV light, there is no visible sign of restoration. Framed under plexiglass; not inspected out of frame. Very light wear to the frame.

A beautiful etching of rural Japan by Ryohei Tanaka, demonstrating the artist's uncanny ability to capture the intricacies of the Japanese landscape and vernacular architecture. Ryohei drew from nature, creating countless sketches of the Japanese countryside. Best known for his black and white etchings, like this example, Ryohei was an award winning artist whose works have been collected by esteemed institutions such as the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, the Fogg Art Museum at Harvard University, the San Francisco Museum of Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Cleveland Museum of Art. Size of plate mark: 6.75" L x 8.125" W (17.1 cm x 20.6 cm) Size of frame: 12.25" L x 13.75" W (31.1 cm x 34.9 cm)
Ryohei Tanaka was born in Takatsuki City outside of Osaka, Japan and began studying etching under Professor Yoshio Furuno in 1963. The following year, he became a member of the Kyoto Etchers Group. He began exhibiting with the Japan Print Association in 1966 and became a member in 1973. Although Ryohei is best known for his black and white etchings, he also made aquatints and mezzotints. Ryohei won many awards in his native Japan as well as Europe and the United States.

Condition:
