Appointing Colonel Lewis as member of emergency board under the Railway Labor Act, investigating dispute between The Des Moines and Central Iowa Railroad and employees. * Washington, April 3, 1945, expressing his appreciation for Colonel Lewis's report on the above dispute. He became a commercial artist in New York and after a successful exhibition concentrated on printmaking the art of which he later helped to teach Edward Hopper. He also travelled and worked in Japan and the influences of both Hopper and Japanese Art can be seen in his successful work of the 1920s and 1930s. He left New York during the Depression and concentrated on rural scenes for some years however upon his return he found that his work had lost its popularity and he died a relatively unknown artist. He is now considered one of America's foremost printmakers of the early 20th Century his depictions of 1930s New York epitomising the period
