Massachusetts Federal tall case clock, finely painted arched dial with moon phase, painted with sailing ship and allegorical figure of hope, cherry case with fluted quarter columns and pierced fretwork, original feet and most blocking, probably Massachusetts, early 19th century, 91-1/4 x 19-3/4 x 10 in. Refinished, scattered flaking and losses to moon dial especially at edges, dial in good repair with very minor retouch, hood fretwork replaced, replaced bottom board and lacking central skirt molding, works probably a good match (later extension to case uprights), brass finials replaced, other scattered patches and minor repairs, banding and veneer repairs. Case refinished, original feet with some regluing and minor repairs, hood possibly lacking fretwork, saddle board a good match, dial paint generally good with some crackle, scratches and wear, lacking pendulum, one finial broken, one pane of hood side glass cracked, other minor repairs.

Comes with key and pendulum. Time and strike.Elias Ingraham (1805-1885) worked as a designer and cabinet maker for George Mitchell in 1828. He designed made and sold the first sharp gothic better known as the steeple clock. During WWII and the Korean War the company made anti-aircraft fuses.
