Seth Thomas #1 Regulator Wall Clock ca. 1875 Rosewood veneer case with fancy reverse painted glass front door painted dial with Roman numerals embossed pendulum of Plymouth Hollow. Original weight and pendulum. Has crank. The factory was originally placed in Plymouth Hollow but then the town name changed to Thomaston in 1875 which then appeared on the labels. 12" dial.Seth Thomas (1785-1859) apprenticed to a carpenter and then when 22 years of age he joined the firm Terry and Hoadley in clock making. He then started his clock factory in Plymouth Hollow and remained there until his death in 1859. He was regarded as one of the most honest and successful clock makers of his time. He is one of the most recognized makers even in modern time.

CLOCK: SETH THOMAS, PLYMOUTH, CT, "PILLAR & SCROLL" SHELF CLOCK, C. 1825, CASE IS IN ORIGINAL CONDITION WITH SCROLLS, FEET AND SKIRT...CLOCK: Seth Thomas, Plymouth, CT, "Pillar & Scroll" shelf clock, c. 1825, case is in original condition with scrolls, feet and skirt with wear consistent with age and use but with no major damage, ivory door escutcheon missing, refinished, case door with original tablet featuring a large three story country estate at left, some flaking and loss, painted wood dial is original to this case with only minor wear on the thin lines, 30-hour original wooden gear movement with distinct curved end escapement bridge, tin movement dust cover verso missing, original Seth Thomas label inside case noting Eli Terry's patent clocks is in good condition but is partially over pasted with the repair label of "W. H. Farrington, Jeweler, Pittsfield, ME", original steel hands (one detached), two original Thomas-style brass finials, center finial is a 20th century reproduction of a Terry-style finial and incorrect style (all three should be the same), original pendulum, pair of original cast iron weights, one winding key, wear consistent with age and use including minor damages/ loss and repairs, 31" h. [NOTE: Many of the above statements based on a report conducted by Chris Bailey in 2006.]
