A Seth Thomas Pillar and Scroll Shelf Clock Veneered mahogany case with scrolled splat three turned brass urn shape finials scrolled apron tapering columns flanking the case diamond shape inset escutcheon. Painted wooden face with Roman numerals gilt accents strawberries and leaves at the corners. Clear glass panel in the top of the door eglomise reverse painted panel below depicting Mt. Vernon-type mansion in a landscape. Interior back with printed paper maker's label and instructions. Two weights pendulum and crank included.Seth Thomas (1785-1859) apprenticed to a carpenter and then when 22 years of age he joined the firm Terry and Hoadley in clock making. He then started his clock factory in Plymouth Hollow and remained there until his death in 1859. He was regarded as one of the most honest and successful clock makers of his time. He is one of the most recognized makers even in modern time.
