Seth Thomas (1785-1859) apprenticed to a carpenter and then when 22 years of age he joined the firm Terry and Hoadley in clock making. He then started his clock factory in Plymouth Hollow and remained there until his death in 1859. He was regarded as one of the most honest and successful clock makers of his time. He is one of the most recognized makers even in modern time.

  A Seth Thomas Mantel Clock Of diminutive size, approx. 16-1/2"H x 11"W x 4"D, with a hinged door front fitted wit two old glass panels and with the panel below decorated with the transfered image of a squirrel surrounded by scrolled oak leaf borders. The painted metal face of the clock reads "Patented May 19, 1863" and has Roman numerals. The back of the interior has printed paper affixed with information about the clock and it's operation. Nice chime.
