Osgood 1873 8vo publisher's green cloth stamped in gilt and lettered in black with central gilt illustration of jellyfish and ''Sea'' for ''Seas.'' First American edition Osgood binding. Exceedingly rare with the majority of the copies reportedly having perished in the Boston fire. Text block shifted; inner hinge cracked prior to half-title; manuscript ex-libris to title page; light toning to some pages; binding faded and worn with spine ends and corners bumped; otherwise plates and most text pages remain clean and sharp.

A 3'' x 4'' printed paper label is affixed to the upper margin from the Dublin nautical goods supplier McAuley & Hughes. Condition: Scattered minor stains. One 2.5'' vertical tear at upper center.
