MARINE SEXTANT WITH CASEA 20th century vintage marine sextant showing a black powder coated brass frame with a silvered arc within a brass index arm stamped H. HUGHES & SON LTD. LONDON, and fitted with a pinch type tangent, together with magnifier, brass telescope, and index mirror, 2 pair of sun shades & horizon mirror, as well as an ivorine vernier scale & micrometer. The underside mounted with a black phenolic grip which stores batteries for the electric light fitted atop the index arm. All within a dovetailed & locking mahogany fitted case with carrying handle, some components may be absent. The lids interior retaining its HUSUN inspection certificate dated February 1945. Case dimensions: 6" high x 10.5 " wide x 11" deep.

Diminutive blackened enameled brass "T" frame, with brass radius, seven shades, telescope socket with eye cup, mirrors, a vernier adjusted by an ivorine wheel, quick release, teak handle and tommy bar. Radius divided from 0-120 and marked with a crown, "AM" and a reference number. Includes an oil jar and maker's examination label dated "19-5-1941". Fitted mahogany carrying case. Formed with strips of brass in duplicate and joined with turned brass pillars. Brass arc inset with a silver scale calibrated from 0-150. Fitted with an index arm with clamp and tangent screws, magnifier, vernier scale, lignum vitae handle, two sets of colored filters and telescopic lens with the telescope fitting into the right side and the ebony handle mounted on the left. After 1845 he worked alone.
