SHAMAN'S LUPONG MANANG, IBAN DAYAK, SARAWAK, MALAYSIA, EARLY 20TH CENTURY 14" x 9 ½" x 9 ½" Woven rattan container with carved ironwood lid with anthropomorphic creature, raised on four ancestral poles from a Dayak warrior. This is the work of the Shaman Manang. Manang owned boxes such as this one, stored medicines, talismans, small carved charms and potions, all of which were used in healing ceremonies.

PAIR GHANDARA STYLE BODHISATTVA FIGURES RIDING ANIMALSPair (2) of Chinese or Southeast Asian carved polychrome wooden sculptures, each depicting a deity with stylized flame halo and elongated ear lobes, hands in the shuni (shoonya) mudra holding a small orb, and seated in vajra position atop a lotus form saddle on an adorned animal. Includes one (1) Samantabhadra figure with red flame halo seated atop an elephant and one (1) figure with yellow flame halo seated atop a blue temple or foo lion. Illegible pencil inscription to underside of foo lion. Both with fitted hardwood stands. Ranging in size from 11 3/8" H x 7" W x 2 3/4" D to 12 7/8" H x 8" W x 3 1/4" D. Overall with stands: 12 3/4" H to 14 1/8" H. Late 19th/early 20th century.
