Note: Iwao Akiyama studied at the Taiheiyo Art School and under notable printmakers Shiko Munakata and Un'ichi Hiratsuka. He is most well known for his striking prints of birds, cats, and other animals.

good overall; Kazumi tacked in at one corner, lightly toned; Haru no Shimo hinged in on mat, some handling creases; frames with light wear and abrasions

KIYOSHI SAITO GEISHA WOODBLOCK PRINT Japan1907-1997Modern depiction of a Geisha wearing a black kimono with red trim and a yellow obi. Saito worked as a sign painter and employed by Asahi Newspaper Company where he came into contact with Shiko Munakata. Saito began to teach himself woodblock techniques and officially began showing his works in 1937 at the Kokugakai Exhibition.

SHIKO MUNAKATA (japanese 1903-1975) HAWK WOMAN 1958, stamped, pencil signed, dated and numbered 145/200. Woodcut on tissue-thin Japon paper. block size: 16 x 12 1/4 in. (40.7 x 31.2cm) provenance: Estate of Alan S. Kushner, Wyndmoor, Pennsylvania. ,000-2,000 Sheet is partially glued down- specifically, the overmat is glued down to the sheet in the margins. Rest of sheet is largely, but not completely, laid down to backing cardboard. The sheet can be carefully, slowly "peeled'' back from backing cardboard. Part of lower margin of sheet is stuck to cardboard, leaving loss of part of sheet at lower margin. Shee has visible puckering, some creasing. Good overall condition.
