  SHREVE CRUMP & LOW 17 TH CENTURY REPRODUCTION SOLID STERLING CANDLESTICKS 6 ½" tall A faithful reproduction of a style prevalent through the seventeenth and early eighteenth century. A multitude of variations exist in the capital, shoulder, stem, knop and base. All types had a well to accumilate wax dripping, as a bobache was not always used. Generally attributed as English, Short pairs of candlesticks as these were used all over Europe. Every writing desk, coiffeuse and library had a pair. The sticks were positioned on the users flanks to overlap and maximize illumination potential. This pair is a cut corner rectangular base with three knops and decorative denticle edging. Approximately 24.21 Troy ounces. A traditional English pair by the renown silversmith Paul de Lamerie, resides at the Metropolitan.
