ENGLISH DOUBLE BARREL HAMMER
ENGLISH DOUBLE BARREL HAMMER GUNside by side configuration, both percussion sidelock plates marked "WALTER BREM" and engraved with scrollwork, articulated and engraved hammers, 30-1/8 in. barrels, brass bead front sight, gold colored scrollwork and "Warranted Laminated" on barrel rib along with scrollwork engraving between hammers and on barrel tang, walnut stock with checkering at wrist and forend, engraved trigger guard and metal component on forend, steel butt plate, gold inlays on top of wrist and under buttstock, overall 46-1/2 in.
Note: Walter Brem was born in Charlotte on July 31st, 1849. He was the son of Col. Thomas H. Brem, commander of Brem's Battery in the Civil War and Martha Fox Brem. Walter Brem was a one time owner of a hardware store on the corner of Trade and Tryon Streets with business partner William H. Martin. This gun is likely an English imported agent marked shotgun imported during his time as a hardware store owner.

oxidation and pitting to metal components, areas of rust, scratches, dents, and chips, wooden stock with evidence of handling, scratches, dents, wear, small crack in forend, chips to wood on top and below action, possible old repair to top of stock near left hammer, triggers and hammers appear to function, one trigger with loss of original screw

Rib is marked "WM Moore & Co. London Fine Twist". Circa 1870 based on Birmingham proof marks. Cbered for 12 gauge shell, 13 marked on barrels. Serial number 3324. Approx. 47 1/4" overall, 15" LOP. Stock is cracked and there is separation between the receiver and stock. Left barrel has dent in the muzzle rim. Bores have some scattered pitting. Some of the hardware has been replaced.
