Robert Browning (1812-1889) Autograph Letter, one page, octavo, signed and dated Feb. 9th [18]55, with stamped, addressed envelope postmarked Florence, Feb. 10, 1855, to Mr. Alexander Gilchrist (1828-1861), reading: "Dear Sir, I well remember the occasion of my writing Mr. Etty, & the feeling with which I wrote, writing more. I can readily believe, however, you have done me as little harm, by printing the note, as good - except in the honor of apostilating my name, even in so slight a matter with that admirable and loveable man's. Your book has only reached me partially as yet - by the extracts in review - but these are of very pleasant promise. Pray let me thank you very cordially for your kind expressions to myself, & assure you that I am, Dear Sir, Yours very sincerely, Robert Browning", accompanied by a clipping of the letter's description in the original sale catalogue of New York Bookseller Emily Driscoll, catalogue 11 (1950), item 23. This letter is clearly in reference to the flattering letter Browning sent in 1849 to the artist William Etty (1787-1849), and which Gilchrist published in his 1855 Life of William Etty, R.A., v. II. p. 280.

One page, giving Walpole news of his son William, a midshipman, and Nelson's third cousin. Reads: Your son I consider as my right and I have always been a little jealous that he has been with anybody else, you may be assured of my regard for him if he was my own son. He is well, seems very happy, and it will be my business to keep him well fed, well paid and well worked. Nelson had been given the Dukedom of Bronte in Sicily by King Ferdinand, August 1799, in gratitude for his help in driving the French troops and the Neapolitan Jacobeans from Naples. Signature and Document of Noted 19th C Thinkers, framed 15" x 9 1/2" framed, signed note from (sir) Richard Owen, noted English biologist d. 1892, he coined the word 'dinosaur', cut signatures include John G. Whittier, Quaker abolitionist and poet, d. 1892, he wrote the book Snowbound, known primarily for his correspondences and his stand of abolition, Augusta Evans Wilson, American author, wrote St. Elmo, Beulah, Tale of the Alamo, etc., d. 1909, signature dated 1885, both cuts not certified, evidence of adhesive at back of each, does not affect signatures. Also to include document of notification regarding Manor house located in Suffolk England July 23rd 1755, identification of owners or recipient is difficult to recognize on the document, one prominent name is of 'Samuel Girling (sic)' does have notation front later time frame of the documents supposed value indication of taping on prior tears, significant foxing on the back of the document with indenture at side that appears original/intentional.
