Side is hallmarked for London, 1761-1762, maker's mark attrib. S. Herbert & Co (working London, mid 18th century, specializing in pierced work). Bail handle has gadrooned edge and no markings. 21.345 oz troy. 10H (handle extended) x 12-3/4" L x 10-1/2"D. 2nd item: French silver beaker with flared, reeded rim, Minerva head mark and maker's mark for Pierre Hippolyte Fournerot, working Paris, circa 1833-1857. Monogram M.B. on underside. 2-7/8"H. 1.73 oz troy.

Basket: Handle likely replaced; crest is likely a later addition. A couple of small repaired tears to pierced work. Cup: Light, 3/4"L dent near base, other small scattered light dents.

A. RASCH COIN SILVER CUP, STEAMBOATA. RASCH COIN SILVER CUP, STEAMBOAT HISTORYAnthony Rasch coin silver beaker or small liquor cup, marked ".RASCH" in rectangle (mark partially rubbed, attributed to Anthony Rasch, working New Orleans, 1821-d. 1858). Double threaded rim, plain sides tapering to a foot with band of gadrooning over molded outer edge. Seamed construction. Inscription reads "H.R.W. Hill to L.(or S).M. Barner 1828". Note: according to oral history, this small liquor cup was given by Henry (Harry) Rufus Willie Hill (1793-1853), a steamboat builder and cotton and sugar merchant with plantations in Louisiana and Middle Tennessee, to Steamboat Captain Sterling Barner (1792-1862) in appreciation for getting him from Tennessee to New Orleans in record time. Barner was the Captain of the second steamboat ever to reach Nashville, Tenn. in 1820. He was considered to be one of the best pilots of the early days. He married Sarah Jane West of Nashville in 1838. 2.475 oz troy, 2-3/4"H. Provenance: Private Arkansas Collection.
