GENT'S FORMAL BLUE VELVET SUIT BY NATHAN'S COSTUMIERS, LONDON Late 19th c. (5) Piece Suit, with the label of L & H Nathan, Court & Theatre Costumiers, Piccadilly, London and originally the property of wealthy American architectural designer and benefactor Edward Francis Searles (1841-1920), in blue velvet and velveteen fabric and lined in cream satin, silver buttons, including tailcoat, (2) vests, knee britches, bicorne hat, and cased jeweled shoe buckle set, tailcoat: 38" chest, vest: 19" long, 36" chest, vest 2: 40" chest, knee britches: 30" long, 36" waist. Generally good condition, minor stitching repairs needed to tailcoat and knee britches; one shoe buckle needs center replacement, buckle box lid detached. Lot accompanied by an image of Mr. Searles wearing this suit.

Box with use wear, wood shrinkage and very minor wear to satin lining. Wrought iron base with scratching and losses to finish on the top surface.
