The September issue (no. 3) of vol. 2 contains the first magazine printing of the U.S. Constitution. The Columbian Magazine of Philadelphia also printed the Constitution in its September issue, priority of publication has not been established. Mathew Carey discontinued publication of The American Magazine after the December 1792 issue, owing to the action of the Post Office denying magazines the use of the mail. An attempt to continue publication produced a single issue in 1799. All issues except those of the aborted resumed publication of 1799 present above.
