G. PRESTOPINO "SLEEPING INFANT" ED. II SERIGRAPH Gregorio Prestopino (American 1907-1984), "Sleeping Infant," silkscreen on rice paper, signed and numbered 41/60, in pencil in bottom margin. Note: Early in his career Prestopino came under the influence of the Ashcan School painters, whose work led him directly to the study of urban life. Provenance: From the Estate of Marilyn "Mickey" Bord, New York, NY. A native New Yorker, Bord formed a deep personal and professional relationship with famed dancer and choreographer Alvin Ailey. Mickey dyed and sewed costumes for the Alvin Ailey Dance Company and eventually served as archivist. Ailey's foundational interest in the African American cultural experience informed the art collection that he assisted Marilyn in acquiring, much of which is offered in this auction.
